The need for social distancing has kept students away, from returning to schools. Most schools use digital content and online connectivity to accomplish Education continuity, during these challenging times.
The digital divide becomes more obvious, as not every learner or student is “connected”. There are geographies that are less privileged due to lack of good quality internet access.
Where internet is pervasive, and availability of digital devices at home are plentiful, the debate has been about screen time, particularly for younger learners. Should we not be limiting their screen time? Allowing more time and opportunity to develop their social skills?
Some policy makers and influencers have campaigned for minimal or no screen time, moving the responsibility of Education continuity mostly to parents and extended family.
Can we accomplish Education continuity if we implement both Social distancing and Digital distancing?
Or is there a right balance that we will discover?
I would like to think so.
