Schools should venture into inter-disciplinary programs

School education and the Curriculum that drives it should provide for schools to offer inter-disciplinary programs. Our traditional subjects have been science, Math, Languages, History, Social Sciences etc.

If we look at the newer challenges and problems that the world should solve, it could be about Climate change, Geo-political issues, world economics, Waste recycling, Sustainable homes, etc.

Each one of these themes have in them: Biology, Physics, Chemistry Geography and History, Maths etc.

It will be a radical change, but I wonder if it can be implemented in phases.
These are true challenges and we are witnessing the outcomes from disasters, to destruction, and a growing threat humankind, and potentially life on earth.

We should make today’s children aware of the abuse that we have delivered already to natural resources. Two objectives here:

  • Create awareness to the disaster that is likely to happen if we don’t behave more responsibly as communities and individuals
  • To find solutions to manage our ecology better.

Depending on where we live, we could do simple things: Water conservation, Lake restoration, Use on renewable energy, waste recycling, etc.
